![]() ![]() Here are some tips for getting the most out of Super Resolution. To understand Super Resolution properly, we must first talk about Enhance Details. There’s more goodness to imagine, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves. ![]() Imagine having an advanced “digital zoom” feature to enlarge your subject. Imagine upsizing an old photo taken with a low-res camera for a large print. Imagine turning a 10-megapixel photo into a 40-megapixel photo. Super Resolution is also a pixels project, but of a different kind. You might sense a pattern here - I like to mess around with pixels. Previous projects that I’ve worked on include Highlights and Shadows, Clarity, Dehaze, Camera Profiles, Lens Corrections, and Upright. My name is Eric Chan, and I’ve worked at Adobe for thirteen years. In this post I’ll explain what it is, how it works, and how to get the most from it. Super Resolution is now shipping in Camera Raw 13.2 and will be coming soon to Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Michaël also previously developed a related feature, Enhance Details. I collaborated closely on this project with Michaël Gharbi and Richard Zhang of Adobe Research. I recently worked on a feature called Enhance Super Resolution and I’m delighted to share it is now live today. “From the ACR team” is a blog series that brings you insights directly from the team that builds the imaging features for Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom mobile, Adobe Camera Raw, and the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop. The inset images show zoomed-in crops of two areas of the photo, with crisply rendered branches and flying snow. Again, Photoshop's new feature and the traditional basic image resizer were used.Īfter it, the side-by-side comparison suggested that the basic tool has a lot of sharper and clearer details than the Super Resolution.Pack more megapixels into your photos with Adobe Super ResolutionĪrticle by Eric Chan, senior principal scientist at Adobe, explaining how the new machine learning powered Super Resolution feature in Lightroom works. In this experiment, a photo of the tiger's face is divided into two parts. For an untrained eye, the difference will be tough to spot, but for the experts, this is a glaring difference that the Super Resolution yields. It was found out that a significant amount of chrome aberration (purple and green fringing) has been produced. ![]() In this trial, the full-sized photo and its cropper version were used. This led the photographers to question the discoloration of the photos powered by an AI tool. The difference in the color of the rhino's skin was seen. The next one is the rhino test, where the Super Resolution tool is compared with the basic resize tool. When the photo was zoomed, the problem in the subject's sharpness and details were observed. The first one is the Robin test, where a picture of a robin bird was introduced. It is expected that its high-quality results will always be the final products, but there are still many things that you should know. While the Photoshop issue is unnoticeable to others, some tests were run to prove its inconsistency with its features. In the case of social media apps like Instagram, a user is allowed to upload an image with a 1080x1080 quality, which is just 1.2 megapixels. Through its sensors with 30.4 megapixels, many people say that every camera could do the same feature of giving the desired resolution to almost all images that they want to manipulate. However, while the tool claims to have the ability to multiply the resolution of a picture through the use of machine learning, it seems to be a big deal for professionals.Īs photographers recalled, the resolution wars ended when the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV arrived. ![]()
